Building Information Modeling

 Building Information Modeling or BIM, is the  3-D design methodology used for the AEC market.  MCS adopted the BIM process in 2004 and has been utilizing it’s innovative updates to model residential, commercial, and government facilities.   Both big and small, many types of entities within the AEC market are adapting the BIM approach to their design and build methodology.  There are even mandates beginning to be seen on some levels, requiring the use of BIM as a method of project delivery. What is BIM?

MCS adopted the BIM process early, leveraging the tools which enable visualization and coordination from the very beginnings of design conceptualization, through the construction documentation and life-cycle management phases. Building Information Modeling employs advanced object-oriented, parametric modeling technology to create a three dimensional (3D) graphical representation of, what will be a real-world building. From this 3D model, information can be extracted and distributed across architectural and engineering disciplines for design validation, enhanced constructability analysis, and collision detection. These factors all contribute to reduce construction costs and reduce time to completion by reducing or eliminating the amount of change orders and RFI’s which typically occur. The 3D model can continue to be used beyond the design & construction of the facility to benefit the owner, real estate management, and life-cycle operation.
